About

Our History

Founded in 2004, Hands of Hope Clinic is the only charitable medical, dental and mental health counseling clinic in Henry County.  Working to reduce healthcare inequities, Hands of Hope serves Henry County residents who do not qualify for Medicare, Medicaid, or VA benefits, and who are living at Federal Poverty Level and do not have the means to afford private insurance.   Our mission is to restore the health and well-being of our patients, and eliminate healthcare inequities in our community while improving overall community health, and reducing unnecessary visits to the emergency room for non-emergency health events.

In 1995, while conducting a door-to-door food ministry in Stockbridge, Georgia,  Janet Turner encountered many individuals in need of basic medical and dental care.  This initiated her vision of starting Henry County’s first and only charitable medical clinic. She began by collaborating with a group of caring county citizens and organizations to plan, implement and raise funds. Founded upon the Christian principles of loving our neighbors and giving grace to those in need, Hands of Hope Clinic began its mission to improve overall community health while serving the needs of individuals.

In 2004, Janet’s dream was realized and Hands of Hope Clinic saw its first patient in the fellowship hall of McDonough Presbyterian Church. Experiencing continuous growth since then, and in an effort to serve more uninsured Henry County residents in need of care, in July 2015, a long-term partnership was established with Piedmont Henry Hospital. This allowed for a significant patient capacity expansion that included transitioning to a fully staffed full-time clinic, and moved Hands of Hope Clinic to its current location on the campus of Piedmont Henry Hospital.

In addition to the clinic staff, Hands of Hope Clinic is so thankful for the many ancillary medical and non-medical volunteers who lend their time, expertise, and financial support to help the clinic fulfill its mission of helping those in need. Since 2004, more than 6,313 patients have been assisted through more than 30,976 visits. None of this could be accomplished without the support of our many volunteers and donors.

Over the years, we have been fortunate to encounter many individuals and witnessed lives improved through our Medical, Dental, and Mental Health programs. Hands of Hope Clinic provides hope to many who otherwise would have none, while reducing inequities in healthcare, and improving overall community health.
