In 1995 while conducting a door-to-door food ministry in Stockbridge, Janet Turner encountered many individuals in need of basic medical and dental care. She set about to organize a group of caring county citizens and organizations to plan, implement and raise funds to start Henry County’s first and only charitable medical clinic. Founded upon the Christian principles of loving our neighbors and giving grace to those in need, Hands of Hope Clinic began its mission to improve overall community health while serving the needs of individuals.
In August 2004
Hands of Hope Clinic, Inc. saw its first patient in the fellowship hall of McDonough Presbyterian Church. Now located on the campus of Piedmont Henry Hospital, Hands of Hope Clinic, Inc. is staffed by an Executive Director as well as clinical staff. We operate out of a space donated by the hospital and we see patients on a fulltime schedule with some evening appointments available for patients who require specialty care.
We have over 60 volunteer doctors, dentists, nurses and spiritual leaders
We are thankful for the many ancillary medical and non-medical volunteers who lend their time, expertise and financial support in providing basic and specialty medical and dental care to those in need. In addition, the many hours of counsel devoted by local spiritual leaders and congregations help to improve our patients’ overall well-being. Our dental program addresses urgent dental problems, such as pain and infection. Since 2004, we’ve helped more than 4,465 patients through more than 22,340 visits thanks to the support of our volunteers, donors and Piedmont Henry Hospital.
There is no doubt that many lives have been touched. We have seen health improve because diseases were discovered early, critical procedures or specialty consultations were arranged, and patients were able to secure essential medications to treat chronic conditions such as diabetes and hypertension. Hands of Hope Clinic, Inc. provides hope to many who otherwise would have none.
